A look back at the development of emergency medicine in the 1970's from an ER chief who also was a part of developing the specialty of emergency medicine. Many humorous and tragic stories of an emergency room in Detroit. The author does a good job with capturing the atmosphere and emotions of staff and patients in a dynamic microcosm of inner city life seen from the inside of an emergency room.
