My rating: 4 of 5 stars
A personal political memoir on his motivation for speaking out against injustice with a silent protest captured forever in a photograph. A well told story of a young man from Harlem who came of age during the Civil Rights movement. Along the way he has inspiring meetings with individuals including Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, Jackie Robinson, and Malcolm X. Sensitized by the Jim Crow experience of Harlem and a short college period in segregated east Texas , Mr. Carlos captures the struggles, glories, and painful sacrifices made due to his political consciousness and desire to claim his humanity. A good read to understand the athlete as a political actor.
