What do you have to lose?
An interesting yet incomplete analysis of the political culture of African Americans. The book reflects on African American history and the author's personal experiences. She encourages independent thinking. Also, the book does not mention government actions of discrimination such as redlining housing, Jim Crow violence to steal wealth, exclusionary practices such as regarding the early G.I. bill benefits and initial social security benefits, underfunded schools based on local property taxes, financial algorithms that discriminate, or unequal health care services that are indirectly sanctioned. If the idea is to work hard to achieve, the rules for success have to be equal for all. An unequal and passive aggressive environment of discrimination is a real obstacle to achieving individual success for minorities.
