My rating: 5 of 5 stars
An encompassing view of life in New Orleans and the African American experience from the era of Jim Crow to the election of President Obama. The book is a very good introduction to life in New Orleans and the roots of its culture. The family political story is an inspirational reminder of cultural progress and also a reminder of the obstacles, dangers, and sacrifices African Americans had to endure to become full citizens of the United States. The book is a nice supplement for a high school or college course on American/African American studies.
