Review: While the World Watched

While the World Watched While the World Watched by Carolyn Maull McKinstry
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Memoir of the tragedy of the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing and the brutality of the response to the Birmingham Civil Rights movement of 1963. The book includes the painful memoirs of a survivor of the bombing, who was a dear friend of the four murdered girls, and the racist culture of Birmingham along with the major events and speeches of the 1960's Civil Rights era. In addition, the author shares her struggles with post traumatic stress disorder, her salvation through her Christian faith, and hope for the future. A historical treasure similar to "Death of Innocence" memoir by Mamie Till-Mobley on the events of her son Emmett Till.
